I’ve been making art and music since I could crawl.

In high school, and even college, my teachers and professors would always try to get me to choose between art and music. My music teachers would say, “You should concentrate on music, and let art be a hobby.” And my art teachers would say the reverse. But I always held out hope, that I could have a career doing both.

These days I split my time between releasing albums, and making art. Both bring me so much joy. And whenever possible I try to combine things, using as much of my own art in my music releases as I can.

At one point, I even wanted to be a filmmaker. So these days I shoot my own music videos.

But that wasn’t always the case…

Years ago, I had the crazy fortune to film a music video with the cast of the Karate Kid, one of my all-time favorite films. The video was for my song Sweep the Leg, which put my band No More Kings on the map. Or at least on the internet map.

Recently, the song and video are having a bit of a resurgence, with the popularity of the Netflix show, Cobra Kai.

The experience of filming that video remains one of the coolest things I’ve ever been part of. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity, and the friends that I made during the filming.

It also allowed me to be part of some other wacky things, including being part of the VH1 show, We Love the New Millennium, as well as having the music video air on MTV.

The song and video landed me some amazing interviews, including some great radio stuff and some fun morning television shows. One time, they even let me do the weather!

I used to watch a show called The Adventures of Mark and Brian, featuring the duo from a famous Los Angeles radio show. I never could’ve guessed that years later I’d be on their radio show as a guest.
