I have this weird little art series that I started a while ago called Grumpy Heads.
It's essentially just a series of like clusters of old cartoon faces based on kind of the Hanna-Barbera and UPA style of of art from the 60s, 70s and 80s. There's something really fun about the simplicity of those kind of cartoon faces, and I wanted to explore that a little bit.
And so I started making these little clusters of heads, and I call them grumpy heads, even though they're not all grumpy. But I think the first batch I did for some reason all looked grumpy to me, and I thought that was a funny name.
I did a bunch of marker versions of these a while ago, and recently I decided to bring some of those and turn them into, acrylic paintings on canvases, which is always fun for me. But for some reason, I don't know, I haven't been painting a lot lately, and I'm trying to get back into that. And so I thought this would be an easy way back into that.
The last one that I did, was is one of my favorite pieces that I've done in a while. I learned a lot about, color harmony and then, bringing in other colors to help out, to break up the monochromatic vibe of it. And I tried applying that to this new one, which seems a little more monochrome.
But there's also something really fun about how, like, messy and, expressive it is.
So. I thought about doing some in my recent mixed media style to using some stencils and stamps and collage paper and that kind of thing. I don't know if that's as effective, but it's fun.
I'm not really sure where I'm going with this series. My first thought was to turn them into maybe a book, and then maybe even like a short animated film of some of some kind. Not really sure yet.
I guess that's the fun part about art is you. Ideally, you just kind of jump in and make a bunch of stuff and then worry about what it can be afterwards.
